Jenna Ortega just demonstrated the best way to feign inches of height and avoid steep tailoring fees.
On February 16, the Wednesday star attended Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special looking nearly as tall as she pretended to be in her Autocomplete Interview video by Wired magazine from 2022. (“I’m six foot four,” she joked in the video, before revealing she’s actually five feet one “or maybe a touch less.”)
You’d never guess Ortega’s true height by looking at her latest red-carpet appearance. While her chocolate-brown satin Monse gown was absolutely stunning, the key to her look was practically invisible. Underneath her dress, Ortega was hiding an unbelievably tall pair of platform heels that gave the actor more length without sacrificing her elegant aesthetic.

Ortega’s shoes could only be seen when the star was in motion, as the silky brown gown fell all the way down to the floor. In fact, photographers only caught a sliver of her platform shoes outside of the after-party, though Vanity Fair captured them in their full glory in an Instagram video from the red carpet.

Ortega’s choice of outerwear, which she paired with a braided Aupen shoulder bag, only served to make the 22-year-old appear even taller, as the bottom of her long fur coat did not reach the hem of her Monse gown and its attached scarf. Beware, short queens: This looks like a tripping hazard, though Jenna Ortega is clearly used to walking in heels like these.
Make no mistake, Ortega’s stylist Enrique Melendez has confirmed the dress was tailored by fashion designer Miguel Pena. Even so, this may encourage some of us to stop hemming our maxidresses and jeans in favor of throwing on a hidden pair of extra-tall platforms. It’s worth a shot!
